Festival Rostock 04. - 07. July

On July 4th, our sailing ship “Lovis” will enter the Stadthafen Rostock (harbour), which is also the main venue of the festival. The screenings, discussion, parties and other events are open to the general public as are most of the workshops, though registration is required for some of these (see schedule below). Some highlights are the opening night, including a panel discussion and a film programm that will show how inspiring and diverse environmental flicks can really be: A water sampling trip on a boat… Comics on demand… Our “Stories from the Seaside” short film screening… A green poetry slam… Everyone is invited to come and join!

If you need to stay overnight, please ask at the Infocounter for the camping site near to the festival area.

At the harbour, there’ll be an ongoing Moving Baltic Sea festival center. Come to get information on the festival and the project, look at the growing exhibition of workshop results, check out other incredible eco-culture projects we have dug up, listen to radio plays about the ocean, delve into our interactive corner, witness spontaneous eco-performances or just hang out. Visit the snack booth to enjoy a delicious local fish sandwich while finding out how you can support ecologically sustainable fishing just by what you eat. The Freiwilliges Ökologisches Jahr (Voluntary Eco Year), Weltladen Rostock, Bund für Umwelt- und Naturschutz Deutschland, among others, will also be represented at the festival center.

For more detailed information on the events and workshops, please see the pdf file (German). Here, you will also find out if the workshop you are interested in is geared to your age group (children, young adults, adults) and whether it is open to amateurs or semi-professionals/professionals. For some of the workshops, you have to have filmmaking or writing/photography experience to register. All the workshops are held in German.

The venue for the Moving Baltic Sea Festival in Rostock is the town harbour. In the times when Germany was divided into two parts, it was a part of the exclusion zone, so it was forbidden to trespass the area.

Since 1991, the whole area of the town-harbour was freed from harbour facilities and changed into a strolling mile with restaurants, theatres, clubs and shops. The infrastructure got modernised, but luckily some of the old cranes and ships were saved.
